Background of the Study: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a potentially serious complication that can arise after the administration of contrast agents during diagnostic imaging procedures such as CT scans, angiography, and MRI. CIN is characterized by acute kidney injury and is a major concern in patients with pre-existing renal conditions (Tijjani et al., 2023). The prevention and management of CIN are critical, as this complication can lead to prolonged hospitalization, increased healthcare costs, and worsened patient outcomes (Alhassan et al., 2024).
Nurses play an essential role in preventing CIN by ensuring proper hydration, monitoring renal function, and providing pre- and post-procedural care for at-risk patients (Yahaya et al., 2024). Despite the importance of this role, there is limited research on the knowledge and practices of nurses regarding CIN prevention, particularly in Sokoto State healthcare facilities. This study aims to investigate the level of nurses' knowledge and their practices in preventing contrast-induced nephropathy in Sokoto State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem: Although CIN is a preventable complication, many healthcare providers, including nurses, may lack sufficient knowledge or awareness of the best practices for preventing this condition. This lack of knowledge could result in inadequate care, increasing the risk of CIN in patients undergoing diagnostic imaging procedures. This study will investigate the level of nurses' knowledge and their practices in preventing CIN in Sokoto State healthcare facilities, highlighting any gaps and suggesting improvements.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on nurses working in diagnostic imaging departments in Sokoto State hospitals. Data will be collected through surveys, interviews, and observational methods. Limitations include the potential for biased responses and the inability to include all healthcare facilities in the state.
